Where Level 2 takes you

The Level 2 Certificate is the recognised first step into professional grooming.

You'll build the practical foundations every groomer relies on: preparing, bathing, drying and handling dogs confidently.
You'll finish qualified to work as a grooming assistant in a professional salon.

It's also the entry requirement for the Level 3 Diploma, so if you decide to qualify fully as a groomer, this is where that journey begins.

If you already know you want to go all the way, our combined course covers both Level 2 and Level 3 in one continuous programme, taking you from beginner to fully qualified.

What you'll learn

Preparing the coat before bathing Brushing out, de-tangling and preparing different coat types so a dog is ready for a professional bath and groom.

Bathing Washing dogs to a professional standard, and choosing the right products for different coats and skin.

Drying and preparing for styling Drying techniques across coat types, and getting a coat into the right condition for the next stage of grooming.

Trimming to prepare a coat Foundational trimming that prepares a coat for styling, and managing tangles and matting safely.

Moving and handling dogs safely Safe moving, lifting and handling, keeping both you and the dog comfortable and secure throughout.

Salon hygiene and biosecurity The cleanliness and biosecurity standards that keep a professional salon safe.

Professional conduct What it means to work to a professional standard, from how you present yourself to how you work within a salon team.

Anatomy, breeds and behaviour An introduction to canine anatomy, breed characteristics and coat types, and reading basic dog behaviour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any experience before I start?

No. The course is built for complete beginners. You start with the fundamentals, with no more than two students per tutor so you're supported closely throughout. You'll need to be 16 or over to enrol.

Will I be a fully qualified groomer when I finish Level 2?

Level 2 qualifies you to work as a grooming assistant, which is the recognised first step into the industry. To qualify as a fully professional groomer, you go on to complete Level 3.

What can I do with a Level 2 qualification?

You'll be qualified to work as a grooming assistant in a professional salon, with the practical skills to prepare, bathe, dry and handle dogs to a professional standard. It's also the foundation you build on if you choose to continue to Level 3 diploma.

Can I continue to Level 3 afterwards?

Yes. The Level 2 Certificate is the entry requirement for the Level 3 Diploma, so it's a natural next step if you decide to qualify fully.

Should I take Level 2 on its own, or as part of the combined course?

If you're not sure how far you want to go, Level 2 on its own is a sensible, lower-commitment way to start. If you already know you want to qualify fully, our combined course covers both levels in one continuous programme and is the simpler route.

How do I pay?

Two ways: pay in full, or spread the cost with a flexible payment plan secured by a deposit, with the balance paid in monthly instalments. Get in touch and we'll set up whatever works for you.
