Who Level 3 is for

The Level 3 Diploma is for groomers who already hold their Level 2 and are ready to qualify fully. You've got the foundations: bathing, drying, coat preparation, safe handling. This is where you build on them to reach full professional standard.

You can join us with a City and Guilds Level 2 from any school. If you hold an equivalent qualification rather than the City and Guilds Level 2, we can usually still take you, we'll carry out a short skills assessment first so we understand your level and move from there.

If you're completely new to grooming with no qualification yet, Level 3 isn't your starting point. Our combined course takes you through Level 2 and Level 3 together, from beginner to fully qualified, in one continuous programme.

What you'll learn

Styling and finishing Grooming and finishing a wide range of breeds to standard, including advanced scissor work, creative styling, and hand stripping.

Assessing the dog and the work required Reading each dog and making your own professional judgement on the style, tools and techniques a groom calls for.

Health checking and handling Confident health checking and handling, and reading canine behaviour throughout the groom to a professional standard.

Health, safety and legislation The health and safety standards, legislation and industry codes of practice that underpin professional grooming.

Customer service and record keeping Professional communication, customer service, and keeping accurate client and treatment records.

Canine first aid A dedicated practical day that goes beyond what the qualification requires, covering bandaging, CPR, and how to respond if a dog in your care needs help.

The business of grooming Our own unit, not part of the City and Guilds syllabus, on what it takes to work for yourself: choosing how you work, understanding your costs, pricing, tax, and finding and keeping clients.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Level 2 to start the Level 3 Diploma?

Yes. Level 3 builds on the skills covered at Level 2, so you'll need a City and Guilds Level 2 in Dog Grooming to enrol. If you're starting from scratch with no qualification, our combined course takes you through both levels in one continuous programme.

Can I join with a Level 2 from a different school?

Yes. We accept the City and Guilds Level 2 from any provider. If you hold an equivalent qualification instead, we can usually still take you, after a short skills assessment so we understand your level and can teach you from the right starting point.

What qualification will I have at the end?

You finish holding the City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming, the qualification that marks you out as a fully professional groomer, recognised by salons and clients across the UK.

What does Level 3 cover that Level 2 doesn't?

Level 3 is where you reach full professional standard: advanced styling and finishing, hand stripping, making your own professional judgements on each dog, and the health, safety and client-care knowledge a professional needs. With us, it also includes a canine first aid day and our own business unit.

Is the learning one-to-one or in a group?

Small group, with a maximum of two students per tutor. You get close, personal attention while still learning alongside someone at a similar stage.

How do I pay?

Two ways: pay in full, or spread the cost with a flexible payment plan secured by a deposit, with the balance paid in monthly instalments. Get in touch and we'll set up whatever works for you.
